Oregon Regulation of Athletic Trainers

Information:

Regulation of Certified Athletic Trainers in Oregon is one element of the duty to protect the public from incompetent individuals. The Oregon Board of Athletic Trainers was created in 1999 by the passage of House Bill 2704 in theLegislative Assembly.

Regulations which govern the practice of Athletic Training in the state of Oregon are contained in Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) ORS 688.701-688.734 (Scroll down to find the correct ORS section.)

Registering ATs requires a yearly fee, which funds a governing body, Oregon Health Licensing Agency (OHLA) to handle complaints, investigation, and disciplinary action, among other things. It also ensures that those who are being treated/cared for by an AT can “Be Certain” that they are in the hands of a professional.

The penalty for practicing without registration for all programs is up to $5,000. The OHLA enforces through investigation based on complaints received. To file a complaint with the Health Licensing Office, please go to this complaint form link: http://egov.oregon.gov/OHLA/AT/forms.shtml
